£6 Million Cash Boost For Littleover Thanks To Three Developers

Barratt Homes, Taylor Wimpey and Miller Homes

Littleover is to benefit from more than £6 million of funding for local services, thanks to a consortium of three major developers building new homes in the Derbyshire village.

The funding, which totals £6,295,255.32 is part of the planning agreement for almost 1,000 new homes being built by Barratt Homes, Taylor Wimpey and Miller Homes, and will benefit both new and existing residents of the area through facilities and services such as education, healthcare and transport.

Included in the contribution is a sum of £3.3 million towards primary education, a £534,161.25 healthcare contribution and a £1.3 million highway contribution.

The Section 106 agreement with South Derbyshire District Council also includes a local centre to be provided on site for the provision of retail units, restaurants and a pub, as well as the construction of a single entry primary school or the equivalent monetary contribution (subject to verification by the council).

John Dillon, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “Supporting the community both in and around a new development is one of the most important aspects of any new housing scheme. We hope the contributions from the consortium will make a significant difference to the community in Littleover.”

Tim Brickley, Managing Director for Taylor Wimpey North Midlands, says: “This investment reflects our belief that building new homes is about more than just providing high-quality properties for people to live in – it is about giving them the chance to be part of a thriving and sustainable community.

“As a consortium we have worked extensively with local authorities to ensure our financial contributions are spent in the best possible way to benefit residents of Littleover both now and in the future.”

Alastair Parsons, Sales Director at Miller Homes Midlands said: "When we move into a new area we understand the importance of enhancing the neighbourhood for both new residents and the current community. By contributing through 106 funding, we take great pleasure in knowing that we can help have a positive impact on these communities for generations to come."

Specific areas of funding include:

  • Bus service contribution and bus provision - £22,100 per year for five years, plus provision of a 33 seater single-deck bus
  • Healthcare contribution - £534,161.25
  • Highway contribution –  £1,327,000
