Sport England reports that 15.8 million people aged 16 and over are now playing a sport once a week in the UK – up by 1.75 million in the last 10 years1. One popular past time getting an overhaul in Slough's regeneration programme is Slough Ice Arena, costing £7.7 million, which will appeal to the 35,300 people who have taken up the sport this year, according to Statistica. For potential house buyers Bellway Homes' Crossways development in the town offers an abundance of leisure facilities on their doorstep, perfect for those hoping to get fit in 2017.
Crossways, in Windsor Road, will comprise 153 apartments, with the Help to Buy scheme available on selected plots. The first phase of the development has been selling fast, with over 70% already sold since September. The Duronto apartments all enjoy a quiet position, overlooking the garden podium or church. With so much to offer locally including the ice rink, which features in ITV's hot series, Dancing on Ice, football, hockey, cricket and rugby clubs; sporting fans will find the development appealing. Montem Leisure Centre is also less than a mile away from development offering three indoor swimming pools, sports courts and gym while Thames Valley Athletics Centre has an outdoor track, sports hall, gym and squash courts.
Zoe Dobbs, Sales Manager at Bellway Homes North London, comments: “Slough is at the centre of a major regeneration programme and its sporting facility plans are at the centre of this redevelopment. With more Brits taking up a sport whether it be on ice, a pitch, a track, or in a studio, Crossways offers them the chance to make great memories, and stay fit and healthy all year round.
“The homes here are suitable for first-time buyers, families and investors, who want to take advantage of the great leisure facilities in the area. We urge anyone interested to come and take a look at the development for themselves before the homes are snapped up.”
While there is much to do in the local area, residents will also enjoy coming back to their modern homes for rest and relaxation. All apartments will be finished to a high specification and include modern design features such as en-suite bathrooms and fitted wardrobes to master bedrooms, open-plan living spaces with wood laminate flooring and Zanussi, integrated kitchen appliances. Gated car parking is also available for separate purchase. There will be four entrances to the development with a separate entrance for the 11 affordable homes through Housing Solutions Housing Association. Most apartments will have balconies, or terraces to take in the best of the views.
Slough is also home to vast shopping and leisure experiences so those living at Crossways will be close to shops and plenty of outdoor space. Slough is also home to some of the country's leading schools for both primary and secondary age pupils. For the over-16's East Berkshire College in nearby Windsor and Langley offer a variety of apprenticeships, A-Levels and professional courses.
Perfect for commuters, Slough Railway Station is only a 15-minute walk from the development, with journeys into London Paddington taking just 19 minutes. Commuters will have an even faster journey into London in 2019 when Crossrail's Elizabeth Line will serve Slough, operating four trains an hour in each direction to Reading in the west and through central London to Essex in the east. Good local road links include access to the M4 in five minutes connecting to London and Bristol, with the M25 and M40 only 20 and 25 minutes away by car respectively. For international travel Heathrow Airport is a 15 minute drive away.
