Beaulieu

This September, Beaulieu, the vibrant new district being created by Countryside and L&Q on the edge of Chelmsford, gains three impressive new educational options for residents and the wider community. The Beaulieu Park School, Bright Horizons Day Nursery and Kip McGrath Education Centre all open their doors, welcoming children from babies to teenagers.

Essex's first all through school, The Beaulieu Park School will welcome the first 60 reception students on September 6th greeted by the Principal, James Donaldson and Head of the Primary School, Ms Koller.   Mr Donaldson said: “The 'all-through' philosophy means that opportunities will be open to local children that are traditionally reserved only for attendees of Independent schools.  Having shared facilities and staff will enhance the learning experience for every pupil that comes to our school and will allow each child a complete and uninterrupted learning experience.  We are very excited about the opportunities that we can offer and the accessibility to Beaulieu Square makes this school a truly excellent choice for Chelmsford parents.”

Bright Horizons is a day nursery that offers high quality care and education for children from aged three months to five years.  Tom Diaper, Nursery Manager at Bright Horizons Chelmsford Day Nursery & Preschool, comments: “We are absolutely thrilled to be opening a nursery in Chelmsford. My highly experienced team and I are currently working hard behind the scenes, using our knowledge built up from 30 years of successful openings, to create an environment in which children can flourish and naturally love learning forever.  I can't wait to open our doors in autumn and begin offering exceptional care and education to local families in this incredible nursery.”

The Kip McGrath Education Centre (Chelmsford North) offers both maths and English tuition to children who are looking to improve on their skills, from basic aptitude, preparation for 11+ entry exams, through to GCSE level.  Tim Horton comments: “Months of careful planning culminate in early September as we officially open our doors for in-centre tuition in Beaulieu Square.   We have already been taking enquiries from residents and carrying out free assessments to gauge the needs of children.  Our programme personalises learning for each child individually which in turn will boost their confidence and success in maths and English.”

These new facilities are all centred around Beaulieu Square which lies at the heart of the development, this attractively designed central square hosts essential facilities and includes the Beaulieu Community Centre. The wider neighbourhood centre is also home to a dentist surgery, veterinary practice and a selection of shops including a new Sainsbury's Local.

Andrew Carrington, Managing Director of Strategic Land at Countryside, which is partnering with L&Q to deliver Beaulieu, comments: “This September marks a milestone at Beaulieu as these significant educational choices open around Beaulieu Square.  Already the square has become a hub for locals dropping in to use the facilities and it will undoubtedly flourish further as the wider amenities open this autumn.”

Craig Luttman, Regional Managing Director – Counties, at L&Q said: “Opening schools and education facilities on developments has a very positive effect on a community.  Parents have enhanced opportunities to form friendships that will often last a lifetime.  These new services will strengthen Beaulieu as they prosper and grow over the next few years.”

The Beaulieu Community Centre which lies adjacent to the school and opposite Bright Horizons and Kip McGrath, will provides further facilities. Residents and the wider community will be able to get involved with a wide range of activities and initiatives at the centre, which also serves as a place of worship. Under the guidance of the Beaulieu Community Trust, the Centre will help to establish a real sense of belonging, allowing both new and existing residents to come together as a community.

About L&Q

L&Q is a regulated charitable housing association and one of the UK's most successful independent social businesses. The L&Q Group houses around 250,000 people in more than 95,000 homes, primarily across London and the South East.

Everything we do begins with social purpose. Our roots go back to the 'new wave' of housing associations created in the 1960's, born out of a growing social consciousness around housing and homelessness.    We set out to provide quality, affordable homes for the most vulnerable in society and it is that same fundamental mission that drives us today.

L&Q's vision is that everyone has a quality home they can afford, and we combine our social purpose with commercial drive to create homes and neighbourhoods everyone can be proud of.

Our core tenure is social rented housing. On average, our residents living in these homes pay less than 50% of market rents, making them genuinely affordable for people on lower incomes. We are absolutely committed to preserving this housing, and building more of it.

We focus on the needs of our existing social housing residents by investing in their homes, local communities and services. We also create high quality homes for private rent, shared ownership and outright sale.

In response to the housing and affordability crisis, we will build 100,000 new homes over ten years. Of these, 60,000 homes will be built or funded by L&Q, whilst a further 40,000 will come through partnerships. Crucially, at least 50% of these new homes will be genuinely affordable, with a target of 60% in London.

As a charitable organisation, our role goes beyond providing homes and housing services. We are a long-term partner in the neighbourhoods where we work. We hope to build aspiration, opportunity and confidence in our communities through our £250 million L&Q Foundation and our skills academy.  Our care and support subsidiary, L&Q Living, also offers housing and other assistance to meet the evolving needs of older and vulnerable people in our society.
