Property Press Awards

The longlist for the Property Press Awards 2019 has been unveiled (www.propertypressawards.com/longlist.html), featuring another record-breaking year for the number of category entries by top UK property journalists across the 18 PPA awards (full entries list below).

Entries for the Awards, organised by Property4Media, the social network connecting property journalists with the property industry, are now closed and the judges' shortlist will be announced on 24 April 2019.

The winners of the Property Press Awards 2019 will be revealed at a dazzling reception on Tuesday, 21 May at London's RSA House on The Strand in London's West End.

Skipton Building Society, the UK's fourth largest building society, with over one million customers, £22bn of assets and a national presence represented by its network of 88 branches, will be sponsoring the coveted Consumer Mortgage Journalist of The Year award. This award has attracted seven entries from an array of top media titles.

Property search specialists Strutt & Parker will once again be sponsoring Newcomer of the Year, awarded to a property journalist who looks destined to be a great property writer or editor of the future. Winning this award in 2018 was Anna Temkin of The Times.

Property Business Journalist of the Year is sponsored by flatfair, the deposit alternative enabling tenants to avoid paying expensive deposits up front. This category has drawn entries from 10 top property journalists from across the sector.

Informare PR: Content and Communication are returning as sponsors of the Property Press Awards and this year will be sponsoring the Property Trade Magazine of the Year. Informare is a PR and communications consultancy specialising in the professional services sector, focusing on architecture, design, property and construction.

Modular furniture designer and manufacturer USM are sponsoring Lifestyle and Interiors Property Journalist of The Year, an award that has attracted 23 high quality entries from across the property spectrum.

Newgate Communications, the award-winning integrated London-based communications agency are sponsoring the Property Supplement of the Year award.

Further sponsors include Properganda, a PR agency that focuses on helping property businesses generate media coverage and Rhodium, a luxury property management company with a portfolio of some of the most exclusive property across prime central London.

The Scoop of the Year is sponsored by Benham and Reeves, the London based letting and sales agency started in the 1950s as a brainchild of two London property visionaries. The category has attracted entries covering recent leasehold scandals, astounding property price cuts, development disasters and London's £4.6bn super sewer.

Last year's winner was Katrina Burroughs of the Sunday Times, with judges describing her scoop on David Cameron's £25,000 shepherd's hut as “a national talking point which rapidly became a defining part of the political landscape.”

Garden Journalist of the Year is set to be particularly competitive, with a record 25 entries from the likes of BBC Gardener's World, The Sunday Times, Daily Mail and many more.

Property Supplement of the Year will have The Times and Sunday Times head-to-head with Evening Standard's Homes & Property, The Telegraph's Property and a new entry for this year, The FT's House & Home.

BBC One's Escape to the Country, C4's Grand Designs: House of the Year and Kirstie and Phil's Love It or List It are among the entries for Property Programme of the Year.

Record entries were also received for Property Staff Journalist of the Year with submissions from staff writers at The Telegraph, The Times and Sunday Times, Housebuilder & Developer, Evening Standard and Which? magazine.

Other categories awarded on the night include International Property Journalist of the Year, Consumer Magazine of the Year, Consumer Mortgage Journalist of the Year, Regional Property Journalist of the Year, Property Columnist of the Year, Business Journalist of the Year, Property Trade Magazine of the Year, Property Columnist of the Year and Property Commentator of the Year.

Up to three judges will determine the winners of each of the awards. As with last year, almost half the judges are new to this year's awards and existing judges will be allocated new categories to preside over.

The outstanding panel of PPA judges comprises top professionals from the media, trade bodies, professional services and large property corporations. The full list of judges is available at www.propertypressawards.com/judges.html.

Said Property4Media's CEO Henry Hemming: “Interest in the awards has grown yet again, with a bumper entry from journalists, and more interest from industry sponsors than ever. We look forward to welcoming everyone to RSA House on 21 May and revealing the winners.”
