Homebuilder Hosts Dinner in the Dark in Cheshire

David Wilson Homes (UK)

A homebuilder has hosted a dinner with a difference to raise awareness of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in Wilmslow.

David Wilson Homes invited the Chairman of Wilmslow Town Council, Cllr Martin Watkins, to join a local guide dog user, Lynette Proctor and her dog Pippa as well as Tracey Digby, Community Fundraiser for Guide Dogs Cheshire and Merseyside and staff of the housebuilder to a 'dinner in the dark' at Bollin Park in Wilmslow.

As well as sitting down to eat a two course lunch whilst blindfolded, the guests took part in a series of everyday tasks such as pairing socks and counting money. They were also given the chance to try on glasses which replicated various visual impairments, in order to put themselves in the shoes of someone with sight loss.

Lynnette and Tracey were on hand to talk about the important work Guide Dogs do and help run the activities.

Tracey said, “We'd like to thank David Wilson Homes for hosting a Dine in the Dark, it's a fun way to get people thinking about sight loss and how it affects day to day life, in addition to raising awareness for the work of Guide Dogs. We hope to hold more events like this in the future.”

Cllr Martin Watkins said, “Loosing ones sight, even in a learning environment, shows how everyday events can be really difficult like eating a plate of food. The interaction  of Lynette and her guide dog Pippa was wonderful to witness.”

They were joined by James Griffith, Sales Manager, Heidi Croston, Marketing Manager and Hollie Nickson, Sales Adviser from David Wilson Homes.

James said, “We were delighted to support the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association as they are such a worthy cause.

“It was fantastic to have Lynette, Tracy and Pippa attend the event to give us all a new perspective on life with a visual impairment. It was a memorable experience and we hope to continue working with the charity in the future.”
