A David Wilson Homes employee has swapped her Sales Adviser role for a Trainee Assistant Site Manager position at the Chelford development, Galloway Grange, located on Dixon Drive.
After working as a Sales Adviser for nearly four years, Laura Carty (31) has recently changed her career in sales to one construction with David Wilson Homes, following in her father's footsteps.
As well as being inspired by her father, Chris Carty (54), who is a Construction Director in Northampton for with the leading developer, construction appealed to Laura because of the diversity and variety the industry offers.
The Glossop native showed an interest in the sector and was given the opportunity to progress into her current role, which she is really enjoying.
“The best thing about working on site is that every day is different, I am continuously challenging myself and learning new skills. It's also wonderful to be able to take customers on their homebuying journey and positively impact their life,” Laura said.
“I chose to work for David Wilson Homes because as a company it offers fantastic opportunities for career advancement, as well as providing structured opportunities and personal development.
“The support I have received is amazing, the team within which I work have provided me with the tools necessary to help me thrive individually as well as in a group.”
Despite being a male-dominated industry, Laura believes that more and more women are becoming involved and excelling in the construction sector.
Laura continued: “David Wilson Homes in particular provide a great career pathway for women and I have currently been offered the opportunity to study a post graduate in construction management.
“I believe it is vital we encourage women to join the construction industry, as there are many great attributes and skillsets that females can contribute to a wide variety of roles that many are unaware are available to them.”
Robert Holbrook, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As a leading developer, it's important we set an example and create a diverse workplace for other housebuilders to follow suit in the years to come.
“We are delighted that Laura is enjoying her new role as a Trainee Assistant Site Manager and we look forward to seeing her progress in the future.”
