Leading Cheshire Developer Enables Shavington Methodist Church to Provide More Support for Local Residents

Barratt Homes

Leading developer, Barratt Homes West Midlands has donated £1,000 to Shavington Methodist Church in Cheshire, to provide more opportunities for people of all ages.

The five star homebuilder, which is currently building properties nearby at Needham's Grange in Shavington and Emberton Grange in Alsager, donated the money as a part of its Community Fund scheme.

The funding will go towards the renovation of the church to enable it to provide a permanent café and a range of new functions for residents in the area.

Cyril Cooper, Church Treasurer at Shavington Methodist Church, said: “Our Church aim is to be central to the life of Shavington village, not just for its members but for all who want to use the premises.

“We have many outside groups and organisations using our Hall for a variety of activities, from a musical group for babies through to Boogie Bounce exercise classes, as well as Brownies and a local drama group.”

In summer 2019, the church trialled a coffee lounge using part of the church premises and installing sofas and tables for customers.

Cyril continued: “It was very much a success, and members agreed to completely renovate the church and hall to make it a multi-function premises with improved access and a permanent café available to all.

“However, due to lockdown, the process was delayed and the members are keen to move forward with the project as soon as possible, to offer the community a safe space to come together.”

Tanya Silk, Sales Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We are thrilled to have provided Shavington Methodist Church with a donation from our Community Fund scheme.

“We are committed to creating a positive impact on the surrounding areas in which we build and are pleased to have been able to contribute to help the church offer even more support and activities for the residents of Shavington in this tough time.”
