Barratt Marks Decade at Camp Hill

Leading homebuilder Barratt Homes Mercia is marking 10 years of work at a major regeneration project in Nuneaton. 

The Camp Hill Regeneration Scheme, which was initially launched in 1999, was designed deliver transformational change to one of the most deprived wards in Warwickshire. 

The initiative was joined by Barratt Homes in 2010 and a series of pledges were outlined including the delivery of over 800 new homes over 10 to 12 years along with training and skills opportunities, community support and investment.

Barratt is currently constructing homes at the fourth and penultimate phase of development, called Saxon Meadows.

Some of the highlights of the last decade include:

·         The launch of Construction Award Multi Skills (CAMS) a programme for 14 to 16 year olds offering on site work experience alongside traditional GCSE subjects.

·         88% of labour sourced within 30 miles of the site, breaking the cycle of unemployment in the area.

·         The creation of the 'Discovery House' – an educational destination demonstrating the benefits of new houses and how they are built.

·         Regular donations to local primary schools including high visibility equipment for Walk to School Month.

·         Funding for summer camps for local children.

·         The project has won various awards over the years including: Silver for Best Partnership at the 2010 WhatHouse? Awards, Best Regeneration Project at the Housebuilder Awards 2011, and Silver for Best Brownfield Development in the WhatHouse Awards 2011.

·         Training of 5 apprentices

·         Visits from local and national VIPs including Chancellor at the time, George Osborne in 2014. 

·         Upgrades to Whittleford Park including a ridge and furrow, a network of footpaths and reintegrating plants in the area.

·         The creation of a collection of open spaces and play areas include a MUGA and outdoor gym.
