Pupils at Oakley Vale Primary School and Priors Hall ALC in Corby have received a donation of hi-vis bag tags from Barratt Homes to help them shine bright during Road Safety Week.

The Northamptonshire housebuilder has given the schools 510 high-visibility bag tags for their pupils to wear whilst walking to and from school, ensuring they can be easily seen on the roads as the darker nights draw in.

Road Safety Week inspires thousands of schools, organisations and communities to take action on road safety and promotes life-saving messages during the week and beyond.

The theme for this year's campaign is 'No Need to Speed', focusing on how a reduced speed of traffic leads to safe and healthy journeys.

In what's been a challenging year for schools across the country as a result of the pandemic, the leading developer is still as committed as ever to providing support during Road Safety Week and beyond.

Emma Goodwin, Principal at Oakley Vale Primary School, said: “We are very grateful to Barratt Homes for this generous donation which will ensure our students are more visible on their journeys to and from school. The distribution of these bag tags will mean that we can give our students a reminder of the need to stay safe, visible and cross roads sensibly and safely on their way to school.”

Tess Mcquade, Headteacher at Priors Hall ALC, said: “I would like to thank Barratt for supporting us keeping our children safe on their journey to and from school by donating these reflective tags. With the earlier dark night's drawing in quickly, they will be well used!”

The homebuilder's development Lyveden Fields is located close to both schools and the donation of hi-vis bag tags is part of Barratt Homes' ongoing commitment to the local community.

Chanda Chileshe, Senior Sales Manager at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “We want to ensure the pupils in the local communities remain visible now the darker nights are here, and our donation will hopefully still encourage them to walk to school safely during Road Safety Week.

“This is a campaign we actively support each year as we endeavour to help local school children in their efforts to commute on foot, and the kit bags have proven to be both effective and practical.

“As a result of the Covid-19 crisis, it's even more important for us to support the local schools in and around the communities we build, so we're thrilled to have had the chance to support two excellent Corby schools during Road Safety Week."

Barratt Homes' bag tags will be particularly useful during Road Safety Week, whilst being certain to benefit the pupils in their future journeys to school throughout the winter months.

Barratt Homes currently has a selection of three and four bedroom homes available at Lake View and Lyveden Fields in Corby with prices starting from £295,995.
