To help remember a very unusual year since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, leading developer Barratt Homes is marking the events of 2020 with a time capsule for future residents in Thrapston.
The housebuilder, which has recently sold out at its Charter's Gate development on Huntingdon Road, enlisted the help of pupils from Thrapston Primary School to bury a piece of the past at the new community.
Children at the school included a collection of booklets which represented their life during lockdown and over the past year of the pandemic. This involved them writing letters to the finders of the time capsule, as well as asking them to interview their family members on how the pandemic affected them.
The time capsule was recently buried by Luke Shepperson, Marketing Manager at Barratt Homes Cambridgeshire and also included momentums such as a local newspaper and some bottles of hand sanitiser to demonstrate to future residents what life was like through 2020.
William Phair, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “We enlisted the help of pupils from Thrapston Primary School to preserve the past of Thrapston and the past year of the pandemic in the form of a time capsule burial.
“As a leading housebuilder it's important for us to consider the past, present and future of our new homes site and now we've completely sold out at our Charter's Gate development, we thought now was the perfect time to capture life in 2020 in the area.
“It will be interesting for those that open the time capsule in 40 years' time to see not only how modern-day items have changed, but how Thrapston and Charter's Gate have changed over the years.”
