TAKE A WALK ON THE DARK SIDE AT THE UK'S MOST HAUNTED DESTINATION

Cornwall's gruesome visitor attraction is open again with tales of crime, punishment and horrible history aplenty. Over the centuries, The Jail has hosted circa 35,000 prisoners, administered hangings, torturous punishment and confinement, all of which contributes to its intriguing, dark, sinister and violent history. Everything the walls have seen has a lasting legacy, meaning that today, Bodmin Jail is undeniably the most haunted place in the whole of the UK.

Visitors to this attraction can now experience the journey of many of those unfortunate souls who were imprisoned within the walls, via an incredible, new £8.5 million state-of-the-art augmented reality and immersive experience.

The Dark Walk merges modern day technology with the authentic environment, and educational experience, taking the visitor on an hour and a half journey through the fascinating history of the Jail and its place in Cornwall's deep mining and smuggling heritage, whilst exploring the surrounding moorland landscape which lends itself to crimes of passion, gruesome murders, violent robberies, and relentless racketeering. Visitors who dare to enter will experience the tension of the courtroom, sentencing, and the harsh reality of life in the cells of condemnation.

A total of 55 executions were undertaken at Bodmin Jail, eight of which were women. Some were for petty offences, while other crimes included rape, murder and theft. For those sentenced to imprisonment, it was an existence of confinement, punishment and hard labour.

Other activities at Bodmin Jail include Historical Jail and Paranormal Tours, Scary Cinema nights, and a Bodmin Town Heritage Ghost Walk. The Jolly Hangman Tavern and gift shop are also on site.

Tickets for Bodmin Jail attraction must be booked in advance. For information about Covid-19 and keeping visitors safe, visit the website at www.bodminjail.org.
