CAMBRIDGESHIRE SITE MANAGERS RAISE OVER £4,700 BY RUNNING 55 MILES
Two of Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire's Site Managers each ran 27.5 miles to raise over £4,700 for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) charity, Action for M.E.
The challenge started after Michele Raucci and Chrissie Matthews were debating whether they would each be able to run to work, which resulted in one of them running from Barratt and David Wilson Homes' Head Office in Peterborough to the Northstowe development, with the other then running the return leg.
To help motivate the pair to train for the mammoth run, they decided to raise money for Action for M.E. This is a charity that has supported Michele's mum, and aims to empower people with M.E to fulfil their potential and secure the care and support they need, while working towards a greater understanding of the illness and ultimately a cure.
Michele, Senior Site Manager at Barratt and David Wilson Homes, said: “The work Action for M.E do is so important in raising awareness and supporting those living with the illness and their families. My mum has lived with the illness for many years, so I've seen first-hand how much this has affected her daily life. We are so grateful for the support shown to us which was reflected in the amount we raised. The division really got behind us on the day with office and site staff cheering us over the finish line.”
Chrissie, Assistant Site Manager at Barratt and David Wilson Homes, said: “We're so proud that we both ran over a marathon! We smashed our fundraising target on the way which made it all worthwhile.”
After completing the run, the pair have managed to raise £4,795 for Action for M.E, with the total still rising.
Emily Kinder, Community Fundraising Officer at Action for M.E, said: “We are so grateful for Michele and Chrissie's support, and were blown away by their total amount raised! To have run such an incredible distance is a real testament to their commitment and determination. The fantastic amount raised will go towards our work improving the lives of people with M.E. through our vital services, campaigning for change and funding biomedical research to increase understanding of the illness.”
Amongst the donations, Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire donated £1,000 to help support the pair with their challenge. The team also helped cheer Michele and Chrissie in as they crossed the finish line, where pizza and refreshments awaited them.
Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “We're so proud of Michele and Chrissie for taking on and completing this extraordinary task. It's incredible how much they have been able to raise for such an important cause, and we're delighted to be able to support this as a business.”
