Is Brittany Becoming the New Cote d'Azur?

Leggett Immobilier - The French Estate Agents

With record demand, and people moving for the climate, a new report from Leggett Immobilier highlights the change in attitude towards the Grand Ouest.

The report is backed up by research issued from the prestigious Sciences Po university, which shows that 39% of French people are extremely worried about climate change. The headline was that Brittany is the perfect region to welcome "migrants climatiques".

"We would never have imagined that Brittany could be envied for its climate, which is often mocked. However, in France, heatwaves are increasingly regular and the coolness of Brittany will attract many newcomers leading to climate immigration".

Other takeaways from the attached report include:
  • Record demand for property, with a lack of new stock coming through
  • Télétravail has exploded, with rural areas benefiting
  • Rennes has the strongest labour market in France
  • Local papers calling it "The golden age of property"
  • Double digit price rises, incoming buyers have bigger budgets
The conclusion from Lisa Greene, who heads the Leggett Immobilier team in the Grand Ouest, is that holiday homes are likely to be a popular choice over the coming decade, with a significant increase in the number of people moving here permanently.
