Earlier this year, Savills reported that views of bungalows for sale on its website had more than doubled since 2019. Yet while demand is rising, bungalows account for just 9.2% of England's 26.8 million properties. At Yapton in West Sussex, Hyde New Homes is working to address the supply and demand imbalance for single storey living. The Elms Collection is the third phase of homes to launch at Wildbridge. The bungalows, along with the houses for sale at Wildbridge, will be available through shared ownership. This government-funded scheme enables buyers to purchase a share in a property, meaning they need a smaller deposit than if they were purchasing the home outright. The buyer pays a subsidised rent on the remaining share, with the option to purchase additional shares in the home according to their own financial circumstances and timescale.

Elms Collection homes are priced from £108,500for a 35% share*. This means a buyer would need a deposit of just £5,425 to buy a home at the development.

Shared ownership at Wildbridge has proven popular with first-time buyers, though the scheme is not limited to those buying their first home. Craig Vincent (31), who bought a house at a previous phase of Wildbridge with partner Emma Morphew (26), comments:

“Buying our first home through shared ownership was the right route for us. It provided us with an unmissable opportunity, and I'm not sure that we could have got on the property ladder without it.
