National Fitness Day: Age Is Just a Number… Staying Active With Rangeford Villages

Rangeford Villages
The wealth of leisure amenities is a key benefit of owning a property at most Rangeford villages, the facilities rival those of a five-star hotel. Owners benefit from a number of state-of-the-art amenities including a pool, steam room, sauna, gym and dance studio. Owners can choose to be as relaxed or as active as they please and have access to an array of groups and clubs for an enriched life including fitness classes at the gym, dance and yoga.

At Homewood Grove, Rangeford's newest village in Chertsey, near Ottershaw in Surrey, owners will be coming together at the start of October to celebrate National Fitness Day with an action-packed schedule of special classes to encourage owners and the local community to be active and try something new. This will include Tai Chi, dance fitness inspired by Strictly Come Dancing and Aqua Fit, all hosted at Revive, the village's fitness and wellbeing centre. There will also be a special buffet lunch on offer for owners and guests, prioritising health and nutrition. Membership at Revive is also available to non-Rangeford owners, aged 40 plus.

At Siddington Park in Cirencester, where two fitness classes are on offer each day, owners will be able to experience a taster session for Movement for Wellbeing, a dance-based class to celebrate National Fitness Day. Lydia Pook, Health and Wellbeing Manager at Siddington Park, comments: “I really am a champion for the importance of wellbeing and fitness at any stage in life. The activities we put on for our owners make such a massive impact. Some move into their new home and haven't exercised in years but the flexibility and adaptability of our fitness offerings encourage them to give it a go, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

“We've had an owner with arthritis see such great changes in their mobility from taking part in classes and using the amenities on offer at Siddington Park. Going up onto their tip toes before was impossible but now they're able to do so. Similarly, we now have owners who can put their own socks on who didn't have the movement to make this doable before. It's wonderful to see our owners benefit so much and change their lifestyle for the better.

“Beyond physical benefits, the positive impact exercise has on mental health is another reason as to why staying active is so important. It's a great way for our owners to make friends and build special bonds with each other. The routine and dedication that comes with going to the gym or attending a class gives them a reason to get out of bed in the morning. We care so much for all our owners and it's great to be able to support them in this way.”

Three of Rangeford's villages are the first over 60s communities in the world to benefit from a scientifically proven method for improving the way we walk, which could boost owners' quality of life and lifespan. The innovative WalkActive Method is being introduced at three luxury retirement villages at Homewood Grove, Siddington Park and Wadswick Green in Wiltshire following a collaboration between Rangeford Villages and Joanna Hall, the internationally renowned fitness expert behind the WalkActive Method.

The partnership is set to revolutionise the wellbeing offerings available to owners by integrating the scientifically proven benefits of The WalkActive Method into their daily lives, with techniques that will potentially add years to their lives. At Siddington Park, owners enjoyed a special workshop to celebrate the introduction of the WalkActive Method at the village, the class was led by Joanna Hall.

At Mickle Hill in Pickering, North Yorkshire, new owners Kevin and Maureen have been enjoying the fitness offerings of their new home. Maureen comments: “Since suffering a few health problems, it's been great to get back into a routine of going to the gym together as it's so important to keep fit. I really like the seated exercise class, they're challenging but manageable. I'm also part of the art group which allows me to be creative and keep busy. Kevin enjoys indoor bowling and table tennis.”

Rangeford Village's integrated retirement communities include Wadswick Green in Wiltshire, Siddington Park in Gloucestershire, Mickle Hill in North Yorkshire, Homewood Grove in Surrey and Strawberry Fields in Cambridgeshire, with further developments in the pipeline including Elstree in Boreham Wood, Hertfordshire.
