A string of internationally acclaimed Portuguese golf resorts is highlighting the benefits of life beside the fairways. Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago, Pestana Golf Residences and TerraBella by Life Plan Resorts are coming together at the Moving to Portugal Show and Seminars in central Dublin on 22nd May 2025 to extol the virtues of living on a golf resort.
The headline benefit is, of course, spectacular golf course views combined with the health and fitness benefits of regular rounds of golf, but modern golf resorts offer a great deal more.
Studies have shown the positive impact that access to greenery can have on mental wellbeing, as well as how walkable neighbourhoods can promote happiness. A 2023 study carried out in Dublin, led by Kevin Leyden, professor of political science and public policy at the University of Galway, found that:
“A significant number of people are happier if they live in attractive, walkable places that enable social connections and trust in others.”
Golf resorts very clearly tick all the right boxes in this respect, with many delivering walkable facilities such as shops, restaurants, spa facilities, tennis courts, padel courts, swimming pools and much more. Clubhouses, of course, are often the social heart of golf resorts, while regular friendly competitions encourage neighbours to connect and play together.
As the benefits of golf resort living become more widely understood, the average age of golf property buyers is falling. The Covid-19 pandemic has also impacted this, with the Changing Landscape: Golf Real Estate in 2024 study finding that the typical buyer age dropped from 65+ pre-pandemic to the early 50s in 2024. The study analysed property buyers at nine golf resorts, including Portugal's Quinta do Lago in the Algarve, which scooped the World Travel Award for Best Golf Real Estate Venue in 2024.
Christina Hippisley, General Manager of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, has seen families and entrepreneurs from across Ireland choose to relocate to golf resorts in Portugal in recent years. She explains:
“Living on a golf resort is no longer just for golfers – it's about an overall levelling up of your quality of life. Golf resorts in Portugal seamlessly blend leisure with lifestyle, delivering a wealth of facilities set against breath-taking backdrops.”
Buying a golf resort property in Portugal also holds major appeal for investors. Portuguese resorts are thoughtfully designed, meaning owners who choose to rent out their property part-time or full-time can have the peace of mind of knowing that it will be impeccably maintained, along with the rest of the resort. Consistently high occupancy rates throughout the year provide for strong rental income potential, as well as high resale values.
Anyone keen to find out more about the benefits of buying a golf resort home is invited to attend the Moving to Portugal Show and Seminars at Dublin's Herbert Park Hotel on 22nd May 2025. In addition to Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago, Pestana Residences Algarve and TerraBella by Life Plan Resorts, a range of tax and legal specialists will be delivering presentations, taking part in panel discussions and available for one-to-one discussions. The event is free to attend, with registration required online in advance at https://Dublin-MTP.eventbrite.co.uk.
