As we welcome the arrival of spring, it's the perfect time to explore the vibrant wildlife that comes to life in our gardens and local landscapes. This week, pupils in the Art Club at Kelvedon Hatch Community Primary School took full advantage of the season's inspiration during a special painting workshop, with guidance from sustainable homebuilder Stonebond, affordable housing provider Persona Homes and local landscape artist, Colin Steed. The children created colourful and expressive artworks that will soon be displayed in Stonebond and Persona Homes' upcoming developments, Myleswood and Brycewood, set to launch in Kelvedon Hatch this summer.
The group, made up of 15 enthusiastic pupils from Years 4, 5, and 6, brought in photos of their favourite nature-inspired subjects, such as bees, butterflies, flowers, and trees, to guide their creative process. Colin Steed led the session, offering personalised tips and expert guidance to help each child bring their vision to life. The paintings not only celebrated the beauty of the season but also reflected the children's growing appreciation for the wildlife in their own homes.
Now complete, these vibrant works of art will be showcased on a landscaping sign in the new developments for all visitors attending the show areas to see. These signs will highlight the community's commitment to biodiversity, while emphasising the importance of preserving wildlife in the new neighbourhood.
Annette Cole, Sales & Marketing Director at Stonebond, comments: “Working with the children at Kelvedon Hatch Community Primary School has been a rewarding experience, and it's been wonderful to see Colin inspire the young artists of the future. We are excited to showcase their beautiful paintings whilst we're promoting our new homes at Myleswood.”
Essex-based landscape artist Colin Steed adds: “Leading this workshop and working with such enthusiastic young artists was a fantastic experience. Their curiosity about the world around them and eagerness to learn how to enhance their paintings - both for this project and their future artwork - was truly inspiring. I can't wait to see their artwork displayed on the forthcoming development.”
Victoria Townsend, Headteacher at Kelvedon Hatch Community Primary School, says: “We are so grateful to Stonebond and Persona Homes for making this wonderful opportunity possible for our pupils. The children were so excited to take part in the workshop, and it was heartwarming to see their love for both art and nature come together in such a meaningful way. Welcoming Colin Steed to our school was very special; our pupils hung onto his every word, eager to learn and grow as young artists. Now, they can't wait to see their finished artwork displayed on the sign, which will showcase their creativity and the pride they feel in what they have achieved.”
Chris Bond, Head of Sales and Marketing from Persona Homes, who will be delivering the affordable homes to Kelvedon Hatch, comments: “It was lovely to witness the children's passion and creativity come to life through their artwork at the workshop. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and we can't wait to see how the new community being built will enhance the already vibrant and thriving village of Kelvedon Hatch.”
