Homeowners at Broadleaf House in Wylde Green came together last week to celebrate the retirement community's first anniversary in style.

Since opening 12 months ago, Broadleaf House has become a vibrant and supportive community. The celebration welcomed more than 40 guests who enjoyed a warm and sociable afternoon, featuring fizz and canapés on arrival, a barbeque, a first birthday cake, live jazz music and dancing.

Alexandra Johnson, Sales and Marketing Director for Adlington Retirement Living, said: “Celebrating this milestone with so many of our homeowners, their families and special guests has been wonderful. This is a place where friendships are made, wellbeing is nurtured, and life is embraced with energy and enthusiasm.”

Offering 24-hour on-site support, the Broadleaf House team provides peace of mind to homeowners, offering help with the little things, as well as the big, and delivering an exceptional standard of service.

Rob, who moved to Broadleaf House in December 2024, said: “Moving here was one of the best decisions I have made in later life. It has both physically and mentally improved my life in many ways.

“I have made many new friends and am socially engaging with people on a daily basis. There is always something going on, whether arranged by Adlington and the managers here at Broadleaf House, or individuals amongst us, including celebrations for VE Day, St Patricks Day, Mothering Sunday and Father's Day.

“We have our own movie nights held in the restaurant, as well as Wednesday visits to the Royal Cinema in Sutton Coldfield and we enjoy regular coffee mornings with our duty managers. We have organised days out, a river cruise and a theatre night out in Birmingham thanks to Gloria and Peter.

“Life can be as full or as relaxing as you choose. This flexibility really suits me, with a sense of an available community, or spending time alone in my lovely apartment.”

Alexandra Johnson added: “At Adlington, we're passionate about empowering older people to enjoy a long, happy and healthy life in a safe and secure environment. Broadleaf House is a shining example of that. With beautifully designed apartments, sociable communal spaces, a wide range of activities, and beautifully maintained private gardens, it offers far more than just a place to live, it's a lifestyle.

“Homeowners can enjoy their independence with the reassurance of support, right on their doorstep. They don't have to worry about the maintenance and upkeep of a house, so they can spend more time socialising and doing the things they love.”

Broadleaf House offers a range of 57 age-exclusive one, two and three-bedroomed apartments. Communal facilities include a homeowners' lounge, coffee lounge, on-site restaurant, hair salon, therapy room, and activities studio, all of which can be used by homeowners as an extension of their own private apartments.

The on-site management team is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Like a good neighbour, the team is the first point of contact for any problems, large or small, and always goes the extra mile to help.

Optional tailored personal care packages are also available, offering flexibility and reassurance for the future. Additional safety features include a sophisticated emergency call system and a secure video entry system to manage access into the building.

Tracey Walsh, General Manager at Broadleaf House, explained: “We're committed to delivering outstanding service and to maintaining the highest standards in everything we do. Over the past year, we've introduced a wide range of events and activities from coffee mornings and fitness sessions to a gardening club where homeowners are growing their own vegetables. It's been wonderful to see so many people getting involved and enjoying life here.”

Adlington Retirement Living has received numerous industry accolades, including twice being named 'Seniors Housing Scheme of the Year' and winning 'Seniors Housing Developer of the Year' at the HealthInvestor Seniors Housing Awards. Additionally, four of its communities have received gold, silver and bronze awards in the 'Best Retirement Development' category at the prestigious WhatHouse? Awards.
