The Woodberry Down regeneration partners are proud to announce the return of the Hidden River Festival - a free, family-friendly celebration taking place on Saturday 13 September, from 1pm to 7pm at Woodberry Down.
Funded by Berkeley Homes, Notting Hill Genesis and the London Borough of Hackney, with support from Manor House Development Trust and Woodberry Down Community Organisation, the festival invites residents and visitors to come together for a day of music, food, art, exciting local performances and community spirit.
Set against the backdrop of the New River and the vibrant Woodberry Down neighbourhood, the event will feature:
- Live performances including a soulful jazz duet, the Woodberry Down resident band, a captivating saxophone soloist, the Hackney Community Orchestra, and a whimsical puppet show performer.
- A range of DJs spinning tunes at the Bobby Dazzler Stage – brought to you by the Hackney showroom.
- A street market offering delicious food and refreshments as well as artisan goods and handmade treasures from local makers.
- A Community Marquee at the Redmond Centre offering henna art, face painting and stalls from local businesses and community groups.
- Interactive workshops from crafts to wellness, with hands-on activities for all ages to enjoy and explore.
- A fundraising raffle in support of Friends of Woodberry Down, a local organisation providing services for residents aged 50 and over.
A highlight of the day will be the unveiling of the Woodberry Down Pavilion – a youth-designed temporary space for creative and cultural activities. The Pavilion was developed through workshops led by Hackney-based architects RC/YYC, alongside access and outreach leads from the London School of Architecture. Young people aged 14–19, who live, study or work in the area played a pivotal role in shaping its concept and design, contributing ideas that explore how public spaces can support community events and celebrate local identity.
Whether you're a long-time resident or a first-time visitor, the Hidden River Festival promises something for everyone. Come for the music, stay for the memories.
James Glass, director of NHG Places at Notting Hill Genesis, said: “This festival is a celebration of everything Woodberry Down stands for - community, culture, and connection.
“We're delighted to support this event, alongside our partners the London Borough of Hackney and Berkeley, that not only brings neighbours together but also celebrates the voices and talents of local residents, especially young people. It's a brilliant example of regeneration rooted in collaboration and culture.”
Cllr Guy Nicholson, Deputy Mayor and cabinet member for housing management and regeneration, said: "The Hidden River Festival celebrates the strength, creativity, and unity of the evolving Woodberry Down neighbourhood. We are delighted to once again support the celebrations and look forward to seeing Woodberry Down residents both old and new come together.”
Harry Lewis, divisional land and development director at Berkeley Homes, said: “The Hidden River Festival reflects Berkeley's long-term commitment to placemaking and inclusive regeneration. Our ambition extends beyond building high-quality, sustainable homes - we aim to nurture thriving communities through events like this, which boost the local economy and showcase Woodberry Down as the unique destination it is.
“In 2024, we proudly celebrated 15 years of partnership, an incredible milestone that has seen the delivery of 2,900 new homes, including 1,130 affordable homes. We've also provided over 4,000 sqm of commercial and community facilities, such as the Redmond Centre, and more than 32,000 sqm of open space, including the 4.5-acre Spring Park where the festival is held.
“Woodberry Down is a remarkable regeneration project, defined by its natural landscape and strong community spirit. We're incredibly proud to welcome everyone to experience everything that makes this place so special.”
