A cross-industry property body has come together to launch the 'A Home for All' Foundation, aimed at addressing homelessness and housing insecurity.
The Foundation's primary goal is to raise and allocate funds to combat the pressing issues.
The foundation's inaugural campaign, 'A Night Without Home', seeks to raise awareness and funds by highlighting the often-invisible nature of homelessness. Imagery used in the campaign underscores that 94% of homelessness is not visible to the public eye.
Guidance for the foundation is provided by an Advisory Committee, comprising 12 leaders from the housing, homelessness, and property sectors. This committee is responsible for directing all funds raised to charitable organisations that focus on homelessness and housing insecurity.
The Advisory Committee includes representatives from various organisations such as LJ Hooker, Origin Energy, Ray White, Jellis Craig, REA Group, Knight Frank, Housing All Australians, Bridge It, Real Estate Institute of Australia, UDIA and LAWD, Frasers Property, and REA Group.
Christine Mikhael, CEO of LJ Hooker Group, serves as the Chair of the foundation's Advisory Committee. Mikhael commented on the initiative, stating, "The property industry is uniquely positioned to address the issue of homelessness and housing insecurity.
“Every day we help our clients buy, sell and rent homes and we have a responsibility to help Australians establish a home. Our work is closely linked to the heart of the issue and A Home for All Foundation is an opportunity to support those who really need it."
The foundation is encouraging participation from the property industry in the 'A Night Without Home' campaign, scheduled for this October.
The event includes various challenges designed to simulate the experience of homelessness. Participants have the option to make a one-time donation, spend a night without the comforts of home, or commit to ongoing support for the foundation.
Mikhael added, "On average, 122,000 Australians don't have a safe and secure place to sleep each night. This doesn't necessarily mean sleeping on the street, it might mean sleeping on a friend's couch, or in a car.
"Homelessness isn't always visible. As a collective we can build on the impactful charitable work so many in our industry have been doing for many years."
Frasers Property Australia Executive General Manager Development Emily Wood is on the Foundation's Advisory Committee.
“Initiatives like A Home for All are vitally important to help direct funding where it is most needed and to spark the collaboration required to address change at scale," she said.
“This is an exciting opportunity to take the purpose we live by at Frasers Property Australia – creating belonging and connection – and extend it beyond our projects to where it is truly needed.”
Ms Wood said the Foundation demonstrates how industry collaboration can create positive change, working towards a future where every Australian has a place to call home.
