Sixteen Lots Sell for £2m in Halls' Bumper Property and Land Auction

Sixteen properties and parcels of land across Shropshire, North Powys and Wrexham sold for in excess of £2 million at a bumper collective property and land auction in the Shrewsbury.

The successful auction, which included homes requiring modernisation and renovation commercial properties, a barn for conversion and parcels of pastureland, was held by Halls auctioneers.

Nine of the houses were sold above the guide prices on behalf of Connexus, a community focused rural housing group covering Shropshire and Herefordshire.

It was the largest collective property and land auction to date conducted by Halls who introduced online bidding for the first time.

“We sold three properties on online which also generated bids for many of the other lots on offer,” said Halls chairman Allen Gittins, who organised the auction. “The combination of traditional and modern methods of sale worked very well.

“We had good, auction-type entries, sensible guide prices and a good crowd which is why all the lots have sold so well.” 

Leading the prices achieved for renovation or modernisation projects was 1 and 2, Milebarn Cottages, Holt Road, Llan-y-Pwll, near Wrexham, which sold for £252,0000. This pair of period, semi-detached, two-bedroom cottages stands within a plot of a quarter of an acre and had a guide price of £150,000.

2, Rockall Villas, Preston Brockhurst, a three-bedroom, semi-detached house with a generous garden, sold for £150,000 (guide price £126,000 to £144,000, while Farthings, Fox Lane, West Felton, near Oswestry, a three-bedroom detached house with a large garage/workshop and gardens, sold for £186,500 (£100,000)

Dove Barn, Lighteach Road, Prees, which sold for £115,000 (£50,000 to £75,000). This barn has planning consent for conversion into four residential dwellings on a site nearing 2.8 acres, together with a cattle and storage barn.

59 and 61, Grotto Road, Market Drayton, three-bedroom, semi-detached houses requiring modernisation in a well-established residential area close to local amenities, sold for £127,000 and £126,000, respectively (£126,000 to £144,000).

The other properties sold were: 12, Weston Road, Bucknell, a two-bedroom, detached, timber bungalow, sold for £126,000 (£90,000),  28, Highfields, Market Drayton, a two-bedroom, semi-detached house, sold for £120,00 (£72,000 to £90,000), 3, Manor Cottages, Marton, a three-bedroom mid-terraced house with outbuildings and gardens, sold for £115,00 (£99,000 to £117,000), 1, Vine Cottages, Weston Rhyn, Oswestry, a Victorian-style, three-bedroom cottage, sold for £100,000 (£90,000), 3,Highfields, Market Drayton, a two-bedroom semi-detached house, sold for £100,000 (£72,000 to £90,000) and 18 and 20, Barnard Street, Wem, three-bedroom semi-detached houses, sold for £95,000 and £92,000, respectively (£94,500 to £117,000).

A mixed-use property, with a ground floor lock up shop and two flats, 11, Market Street, Craven Arms sold for £100,000 (£80,000 to £100,000).

Strong demand for small parcels of amenity land continued as half an acre at Sarnau, Llanymynech sold for £38,000 against a guide price of £5,000 to £10,000.
