Pennyfarthing Buys Ringwood Brewery for Redevelopment

Pennyfarthing Homes

Pennyfarthing Homes, the award-winning Hampshire-based housebuilder, has completed the purchase of the former Ringwood Brewery, which it plans to redevelop and convert into office space as its new headquarters. The move comes as Pennyfarthing Homes expands its operations, having outgrown its current base in New Milton. The family-owned company, which has made its name as builder of high-quality homes in the New Forest and surrounding areas of Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire, hopes to relocate to Ringwood as part of its long-term growth strategy.

The historic brewery site, located on the Hampshire–Dorset border and within walking distance of Ringwood town centre, was put up for sale two years ago by Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company, which this year became Carlsberg Britvic. In addition to establishing its own headquarters, Pennyfarthing Homes has completed the sub-sale of two warehouses on the site to Brighter Productions, a leading event production company, who will refurbish the building into a state-of-the-art headquarters. Bryony Thompson of Vail Williams acted for Pennyfarthing Homes, introducing Brighter Productions in an off-market deal.

The 1.88-acre site includes over 36,000 sq ft of accommodation comprising former brewery buildings, warehouses, offices, tap room, shop, and car parking. With easy access to the A31 and A338, and just a short walk from Ringwood town centre, the redeveloped site will include modern, bespoke office spaces with storage and warehousing.

Mark Adams, Executive Chairman at Pennyfarthing Homes, said: “We are proud to be breathing new life into an iconic local site that has been underutilised for several years. This redevelopment will not only provide Pennyfarthing with a new base that reflects our ambitions for the future, but it will also bring new jobs and energy to the local area. Ringwood is a thriving town in a prime location, and we look forward to being part of its future.”

Sean Tomkins, Commercial Director from Brighter Productions, said: “We are thrilled to be moving into such a unique and characterful location. This new headquarters will give us the space and facilities we need to continue growing our business, while keeping us firmly rooted in the local area. Pennyfarthing's vision for the redevelopment is inspiring, and we are excited to be part of the next chapter for this site.”

David Bodily, Property & Facilities Director at Carlsberg Britvic, said: “Ringwood Brewery has long been a part of the town's history, and we are pleased that the site's legacy can continue through this redevelopment by a local, family-owned and well-established business. We welcome Pennyfarthing's plans to revitalise the site so that it contributes positively to the community and wish them every success as the site's new owners.”

It is anticipated that work will start on the brewery in 2026, with the two businesses relocating following completion of the works.
