On Thursday 16th October, the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) placed the State Significant Development proposal for an adaptive re-use of the former Berrima Gaol site on its Major Projects Portal for public comment.

The public exhibition period will remain open for 28 days until 12th November, 2025.

The SSD proposal consists of some 30 reports, which make up the Environmental Impact Statement. They include architectural design, engineering, sewage and water management, riparian, flooding and bushfire modelling, traffic, green travel, parking, heritage including Connecting with Country, social impact including noise and light studies, among others.

The public exhibition period follows assessment by the DPHI to confirm that the proposal meets the NSW Government's rigorous 'test of adequacy' – which ensures that all the requirements set out by the Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARS) have been met.

The proposal (including all reports) is available on the Major Projects Portal and we encourage those following the project and with an interest in regional development to visit the portal and voice their support.

Once the proposal has been published on the NSW Government planning portal, we will also make the architectural concept available to view on our Design Concept page.

To help keep you up to date, we haveestablished Facebook and Instagram accounts to help keep you up to date on the proposal's status, and how to have your say.
