The Guinness Partnership, one of England's largest housing associations, welcomed Navendu Mishra MP and Cllr Mark Roberts, the Leader of Stockport MBC to Edward Street in Stockport, to celebrate the completion of 131 one- and two-bedroom apartments for affordable and social rent.
Kevin Williams, Executive Director of Assets and Development at The Guinness Partnership was joined by senior colleagues from the development team, as well as Dave Saville, Managing Director (NW) of Caddick Construction Ltd, and his team.
The energy efficient homes have secure cycle storage and EV charging to support sustainable travel, alongside landscaping and public realm improvements to boost biodiversity. They were delivered with the support of funding from Homes England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Brownfield Housing Fund.
Caddick Construction was appointed to the project via the Innovation North (ICN), a multi-partner framework for housing development that is designed to create efficiency in the procurement of much needed homes.
Kevin Williams, Executive Director of Assets and Development at The Guinness Partnership said: “We are pleased to have delivered 131 much needed high-quality affordable homes in the centre of Stockport, as part of our commitment to supporting development in Greater Manchester.
“We would like to thank our partners on this project, Homes England, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Caddick Construction Ltd, Bowker Sadler Architects and Simon Fenton Partnerships who have all been part of getting us to this important stage. We would also like to thank Stockport MBC for supporting the project and for their commitment to providing affordable homes in Stockport town centre as part of their regeneration programme.”
Navendu Mishra MP for Stockport said: “I am very pleased to see the completion of these new affordable homes in the heart of Stockport. Access to safe, secure, and sustainable housing is a fundamental right, and this development is a welcome step towards meeting the housing needs of our community.”
Leader of Stockport Council, Cllr Mark Roberts, said: “The Edward Street development is another step forward in our UK-leading regeneration that will see 8,000 new homes in Stockport town centre over the next 15 years.
“We are proud to welcome 131 high-quality, energy-efficient apartments that are not only affordable, but are vital homes for social rent in the heart of our town. This is the second affordable housing scheme to be completed in the past two months, sending a clear message that we are serious about keeping affordability front and centre in our ambitious regeneration programme.
“The development strengthens our growing pipeline of affordable housing and reflects our promise to making Stockport a vibrant place that offers a true mix of homes, jobs, leisure, better healthcare and transport to benefit everyone across our borough.
“Our sincere thanks go to The Guinness Partnership and all those involved in bringing this project to life and we look forward to seeing residents move into their new homes.”
Dave Saville, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction North West commented: “We're pleased to announce the completion of this fantastic development, which provides valuable housing for the people of Stockport. The project, procured through the ICN Framework, has seen our team build 131 new affordable homes and our colleagues at CCL Facades design, supply and install the glazing system.
“We have worked closely and collaboratively with The Guinness Partnership throughout the project to ensure the successful delivery of these high quality one and two-bedroom homes on Edward Street. Marking our second development for The Guinness Partnership in the region, we're proud to continue our ongoing relationship and we look forward to working together again in the future.”
