Christmas spirit filled Brookfields House as children from St Mary's Catholic Primary School visited the retirement community in Newcastle-under-Lyme to perform their Travelling Nativity for homeowners.
Twenty-five pupils delivered the performance on Thursday 11th December, sharing songs and the story of the nativity with homeowners as part of their mission to spread joy throughout their local community this festive season.
The idea for the Travelling Nativity came from the school's Mini Vinnies, a group of pupils who meet weekly to explore ways of supporting their parish and wider community. Inspired by the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society, the children chose to take their nativity “on the road” to bring Christmas cheer to those around them.
Having rehearsed for two weeks, the performance at Brookfields House was one of the school's main festive events in the run-up to Christmas.
Mike Keane, General Manager at Brookfields House, said: “It was a joy to welcome the children back to Brookfields House. Their enthusiasm and kindness created such a special atmosphere for our homeowners. You could see how much the performance meant to everyone in the room.”
Mrs Furnival, Learning Support Assistant at St Mary's added: “The children really enjoyed performing the Travelling Nativity at Brookfields House. They were thrilled by the warm welcome they received.”
Homeowners gathered in the lounge to enjoy the performance. Margaret, who moved into Brookfields House earlier this year, said: “The children were wonderful. Their performance really brightened our day and made the start of the Christmas season feel truly magical.”
This latest visit builds on the growing connection between St Mary's Catholic Primary School and Brookfields House, following previous intergenerational activities including a nature and gardening afternoon enjoyed by pupils and homeowners earlier this year.
