South Wootton Housebuilder Celebrates National Storytelling Week by Hosting School Competition

Allison Homes

Regional housebuilder Allison Homes East has celebrated National Storytelling Week by running a creative competition with pupils at Greenpark Academy Primary and Nursery School, located close to its Wootton Grange development in South Wootton.

National Storytelling Week, led by the Society for Storytelling, is taking place from Saturday 31st January to Sunday 8th February and aims to celebrate the power of stories to connect communities, inspire imagination and encourage a lifelong love of reading.

To mark the occasion, Allison Homes East invited pupils to take part in a storytelling-themed competition titled 'My Favourite Story Space'. Children were encouraged to draw, write or create a collage showing their favourite place to read, whether that was a cosy corner at home, their school library or a location inspired by a book they love.

Entries were judged anonymously by the Allison Homes team, with one overall winner selected.

The winning entry was created by Priscilla, aged 10, who produced a detailed illustration of Gaywood Library, thoughtfully incorporating the elements she enjoys most about the space and what makes it special to her as a reader.

As part of the prize, Priscilla received £50 in book tokens, while £100 worth of book tokens were also donated to Greenpark Academy to support its school library and encourage reading across the wider community. This donation will go to creating a new graphic novel section within the school library, aimed at engaging more readers and widening access to a range of books for pupils.

Kevin Wales, Year 6 Teacher at Greenpark Academy, said: “We are so thankful to Allison Homes for providing such a wonderful opportunity. Priscilla was truly overwhelmed by her win and was completely speechless.

“The book tokens our school received will be used to add new titles to our library, which we are extremely grateful for. We are very appreciative of the opportunity for our pupils to take part in such a wonderfully creative competition that celebrated a love of reading and would like to say a huge thank you from everyone at Greenpark Academy.”

Charlotte Barber, Regional Sales Manager at Allison Homes East, said: “National Storytelling Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate creativity and the joy of reading, particularly among young people. We were so impressed by the quality and thoughtfulness of all the entries we received from Greenpark Academy.

“Priscilla's artwork really stood out and captured the magic of getting lost in a good story. We are proud to support schools in the communities where we build and hope this competition helps inspire a lasting love of books and storytelling.”
