Cambridgeshire Developer Showcases Cycle Lanes Designed to Support Active Journeys to School

David Wilson Homes (UK)

To coincide with Walk Wheel Cycle Trust's Big Walk and Wheel (16th - 27th March), David Wilson Homes is highlighting the walking and cycling routes around its Wintringham development.

Walk Wheel Cycle Trust's Big Walk and Wheel is a national competition designed to inspire pupils to make active journeys to school, improve air quality and discover how these changes benefit their world.

Registered schools compete to achieve the highest percentage of their pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school, with daily prizes to be won.

In Walk Wheel Cycle Trust's Children's Walking and Cycling Index in 2024, it was revealed that 14% of primary school trips are carried out on a bike. The vast majority of children also support actions like creating more cycle paths to improve walking and cycling to school.

Residents at Wintringham can take advantage of nine kilometres of walking and cycling routes which allow for an easy, active and sustainable way to travel to school.

Kerry Mullen, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Northampton, said: “We're proud to be providing cycle paths at our Wintringham development, allowing residents to have a safe and easy way to experience their local community and the surrounding areas to the fullest.

“Homebuyers can take a leisurely cycle around the developments, or they can use the routes to commute to work or school, reducing their carbon footprint and helping to live a more sustainable life.

“We would like to wish everyone taking part in Walk Wheel Cycle Trust's Big Walk and Wheel by adapting their usual commute to school the very best of luck.”
