Family-owned housebuilder, Pennyfarthing Homes, recently welcomed students from The Arnewood School to its new development, Danes Park, which is bringing 164 new homes to New Milton. Giving the students a flavour of a career in construction, the visit offered a brief tour of the site and an introduction to the range of roles involved in delivering a major housing project.
Equipped with boots and hi-vis vests, the group of five Year 11 students from The Arnewood School were hosted by Amy Borrowdale, Assistant Site Manager at Pennyfarthing Homes. Amy gave the students a tour of the development and explained the entire process that takes place on site; beginning from early planning approval to the day when buyers happily move into their new home.
With three years under her belt in the sector, Amy is passionate about building homes for the future and inspiring bright young minds to join the construction industry. She also spoke to the group of the increasing number of women in the field, providing the students with a valuable angle on how the industry landscape has developed.
Amy Borrowdale, Assistant Site Manager at Pennyfarthing Homes, reflects: “I was so pleased to welcome the students of The Arnewood School into my world of construction. It's exciting to think this might be a first step towards a career for some of those who attended. Pennyfarthing is committed to facilitating local community initiatives and inspiring a future generation for construction, and we look forward to hosting more keen and aspiring students in future.”
Mr Clarke, Design and Technology Teacher at The Arnewood School, comments: “We would like to thank Pennyfarthing Homes for hosting us at their Danes Park development. It's important that our young people have the opportunity to link what they learn in the classroom with the real world, and we felt that Amy delivered a first-class explanation of the different aspects of a construction site. I could see that several of the young people were inspired by learning about the planning and processes which go into building the homes we live in. We look forward to more frequent visits to the site as it develops.”
Izzie Hendy, Student at The Arnewood School, said: “Amy's tour around the development was really interesting. It was great to learn more about what must be considered at each step of the homebuilding process, and to see that explained on a real site. Thank you to Pennyfarthing for having us!”
