  • Construction starts this winter
  • Sales and information open weekend – Sat 1 & Sun 2 November
  • Sales and marketing suite to open on site

Richmond Villages, which designs, develops and operates premium retirement villages across the UK has announced details of its seventh village, which is to be built at Aston-on-Trent, Derbyshire. Once completed it will provide 125 homes for those over 55, and an additional 60 care home beds.

The development follows the company's acquisition by Bupa last year, and the success of its other new villages, Letcombe Regis in Oxfordshire, Painswick in Gloucestershire and Northampton.

Offering a quiet and peaceful location, the new retirement village will occupy the site of the former hospital within the tranquil village of Aston-on-Trent, which offers a wealth of community focus that includes a parish church, village hall, two pubs, village shop, bowling and cricket clubs, golf society, Women's Institute and history group.

The new £30 million Richmond Aston-on-Trent will be within easy reach of the M1 and some seven miles south east of Derby. It will initially comprise 47 Village apartments offering an independent lifestyle - one and two bedroom apartments (with the average size of a two bed being 1,100 sq.ft), 30 Village suites (one and two bedroom) which come with a 'hotel style' package to help with all daily chores, and a care home providing nursing and dementia care.

A full list of property prices will be available from mid-October, but as an indication Village suites will start from £195,000 and Village apartments from £270,000. Reservations will also be taken shortly when the sales and marketing suite opens in October, and there will be a sales and information open weekend held at the Priest House Hotel, Castle Donington on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November.

The belief at Richmond Villages is that retirement should be enjoyable and safe, and a positive and active stage in life to look forward to. Richmond Aston-on-Trent therefore includes all the facilities that have made its other villages so popular, including a wellness spa with swimming pool and gym, hair and beauty salon, a library, IT room, terrace café, quality restaurant and garden bar, and all set within beautifully landscaped grounds with a croquet lawn.

Commented Paddy Brice, managing director of Richmond Villages: “We know from the waiting list for properties at our other villages that there is an increasing demand for what we offer, and are delighted that construction will start soon. We very much look forward to becoming part of the community in Aston-on-Trent.

“In addition to these new homes which will help meet the growing need from the ageing sector of the community, this new village will create some 150 new and permanent jobs,” he added.

Richmond Villages - the ethos

Richmond understands that the sense of community, social interaction, physical activity and mental stimulation are vital to a happy and fulfilling later life. Its villages are designed to allow residents easy access to a range of facilities, services and social events with the reassurance of on-site care and support if required.

The villages provide three types of accommodation, from large two bedroom Village apartments offering an independent lifestyle, one or two bedroom Village suites, to 24-hour nursing and dementia care. The key element is for people to enjoy as much independence and choice as possible, whilst retaining their 'zest for life'.

Typical village accommodation available to purchase

Village apartments

Village apartments are large one or two bedroom apartments comprising a fully fitted kitchen, large sitting room, master bedroom with en-suite and second bedroom, most with en-suite. Personal care can be provided by Richmond's own on-site domiciliary care team.

Village suites

These apartments are situated within the main village centre building and are designed to help people maintain their independence. Apartments typically include a sitting room, kitchenette and en-suite bedroom. To remove the daily chores, these apartments come with an 'Independent living package' which includes all food, daily cleaning, laundry and utilities, meaning you can spend more time doing the things you want to do and maintain your independence. Personal care packages are available from Richmond's domiciliary care team.

Care bedrooms

There are also large en-suite care bedrooms located in the care home within the village centre building to provide nursing and dementia care. The care home also has its own restaurant and lounges, but the advantage of a Richmond care home over a conventional nursing home is that it is situated within the heart of a social and stimulating community with a wealth of things going on.
