The Sangster family can confirm that The Manton Estate, Marlborough in Wiltshire will be placed on the open market at the end of April and they have appointed Strutt & Parker and Adkin jointly to conduct the sale.
The Estate is comprised of about 2,155 acres and is one of England's finest sporting estates. It includes the historic Manton House together with a secondary house, Manton Lodge, twenty-four cottages, ten flats and two hostels.
The estate is unparalleled in the UK, with the racehorse training dating back to the 1860's. It is arguably the home of England's finest private racehorse training complex, incorporating four unique separate training yards with a total of over 200 boxes as well as state of the art training facilities. There are grass gallops stretching over 400 acres, high on the Marlborough Downs, as well as four all-weather surfaces. The remainder of the estate comprises a 1,600 acre commercial arable and grassland farm, an outstanding pheasant and partridge shoot over areas of spectacular amenity and landscaped importance.
The Estate was purchased by the late Robert Sangster in 1984 and it has been run by his family since his death in 2004. Guy and Ben Sangster, Robert's oldest sons commented - “Whilst it is sad that the family are selling Manton after thirty years of ownership, we are all in agreement that now is the time for another chapter in the illustrious history of this Estate. We remain committed to racing and breeding, and the Sangster colours will still be seen on the race track. Since we have owned Manton we are proud that over fifty Group 1 winners, including ten Classics, have been trained here. The Estate is profitable. Brian Meehan and George Baker the two trainers who currently lease facilities at Manton will continue to have our full support and we will keep them and our loyal staff in touch as matters proceed”
Strutt & Parker and Adkin, the joint agents will be offerring this unique Estate as a whole or in up to seven lots.
