Peabody

Peabody, one of London’s largest housing associations, is launching it’s latest offering, The Elmington in Camberwell this Spring. Part of Bellway’s contemporary Elmington Green development, Peabody will be offering 18 one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments and a three-bedroom townhouse available through shared ownership. This will provide first-time buyers the chance to purchase a property in an up and coming area of London.

In recent years, Camberwell has benefited from a £13 million regeneration project that has seen major improvements to public spaces, including the local library and Camberwell Green, which reopened in 2016 after a £1million refurbishment [1]. This well-connected Zone 2 location and its surrounding amenities makes The Elmington the ideal choice for young professionals and families looking for suburban living within reach of the City.

The café culture of Camberwell offers a range of popular eateries such as Malako, a buzzing vegan and vegetarian café famous for its savoury crepes and is highly regarded by Time Out. There is also The Camberwell Arms – a family friendly gastropub that, according to The Guardian, serves up one of the UK’s best Sunday lunches [2].

In addition to the newly refurbished Camberwell Green, The Elmington is surrounded by an abundance of green space including Burgess Park (one of the largest parks in South London) and Brunswick Park. All three are within a 10-minutes’ walk of the development, and each one showcases a range of events throughout the year from monthly craft fairs, to seasonal firework displays. The Elmington sits at the centre of it all.

Debbie Coombs, Director of Sales and Marketing at Peabody, comments: “We are absolutely thrilled to add The Elmington to Peabody’s ever growing collection of Shared Ownership properties. The scheme will provide first-time buyers with the chance to purchase a property in a well connected, prime Zone 2 location, an ideal choice for young professionals.”

Camberwell is becoming ever more popular with young families due to its vast range of green space and close proximity to schools. For younger children, The Elmington is just a four-minute drive away from St John The Divine Church of England Primary School which has an Ofsted rating of ‘Good.’

For secondary schools, families can choose from the area’s top three rated choices such as James Allen’s Girls School, The Charter School and Sacred Heart Catholic School, of which admit from the ages of 11-18 and are within a 25 minute - walk from The Elmington.

The development’s prime Zone 2 location means that there are a host of transport options to choose from, including the Underground, Overground and bus routes. Denmark Hill Overground is accessible within a 19-minute walk of the development and offers links to commuter hotspots such as London Victoria in just nine minutes. Oval and Kennington Underground station sit just over a mile away and can reach key locations such as, Clapham Junction, London Victoria and King’s Cross St Pancras within 20 minutes. Additionally, the nearest bus stop is situated just a two-minute walk from the development where frequent bus services run locally and across the city.
