Leading Cheshire developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West awarded a group of pupils at Cranberry Academy for their outstanding entries to their year-long Building Buddies scheme.

The Building Buddies Award is being hosted at the local primary school close to the homebuilder's Lloyd Mews and Scholar's Place developments in Alsager, guiding pupils through the construction process with four exciting activities.

The winners of the first and second task in the scheme were awarded with vouchers and a visit to David Wilson Homes' Scholars Place development on Hassall Road.

This specially designed scheme is intended to encourage children to show an interest in the industry, helping them to consider a career in construction from an early age.

The scheme comprises four tasks which will be run across the academic year, two of which have now been completed. The first task involved pupils designing and naming their own development. The second task was marketing based, and gave pupils a chance to describe what kind of customer their development was designed for. The next two tasks include partaking in a wildlife friendly exercise and poster competition.

Mrs Helen Morris, Principal at Cranberry Academy, said: “We are very grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for this opportunity for our children to be involved in the local housing developments through the Building Buddies Award Scheme.

“Our Year 5 pupils really enjoyed completing the first tasks and having a go at designing their own development logos. We're looking forward to completing the remaining tasks across the year.”

Split into four quarters, the Building Buddies Award is set to teach young children about planning and land, sales and marketing, technical and construction.

Lynton Dudgeon, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West, said: “Through the Building Buddies scheme, we have the chance to educate young children on the construction industry as well as raising awareness of important issues such as site safety.

“The entries for the first two tasks have been phenomenal. It was great for the winners of tasks to be able to visit our nearby Scholars Place development to see how a development is constructed and ran by the team on site.
