Sextant French Properties is delighted to announce that we have the opportunity to offer a new stone house in Montignac. Full of history, the 12th Century house reflects the aspects of the typical village in South West of France.
Montignac: an authentic village
The typical village of Montignac, located in Dordogne, is famous for its culture, its medieval little streets, its gastronomy and its festivals. But the main feature of this village is its history.
Prehistoric heritage
The small village offers to all people in love with history the opportunity to visit the Lascaux caves. Indeed, the Palaeolithic paintings are available to visit thanks to a reconstitution of the famous work, in order to keep the work in good conditions. Those prehistoric paintings are a part of the Regourdou area. The Regourdou area is an archaeological site, named historic monument of the French heritage.
Medieval period
During all wars, between France and England, which took place in the Middle Age, the region of Dordogne has been the object of a lot of fights. Indeed, the King of England Henri III, also Duke of Aquitaine fought to keep Bordeaux and La Gascogne, whereas the King of France Louis IX, known as Saint Louis for his neutrality, was peaceful. The region lived lots of battles and the Castle of Montignac is one of those demonstrations, in between all little streets.
The South West Culture
Montignac is located in the Vallée Vézère. The Vézère river cross the village of Montignac to go through the Vallée which is ranked at the UNESCO world heritage list. The preserved Vallée is dedicated to the Prehistory due to the Lascaux vestiges. There, it is possible to practice sports like canoeing, kayaking, go hiking etc…
All year long, the village offers a lot of festivities such as:
- Conferences
- Art expositions
- Festivals (the Festival DocumenTerre which is an eco-festival which offers exchanges and debates about the conservation of the earth, the International festival of Montignac which proposes music, dance and culture from different foreign countries…)
- Concerts
- Lotteries etc...
Moreover, the market takes always place in the village centre.
What's more, as every French region, Dordogne has its particular meals such as foie gras, truffles (also known as “the Black Diamond”)… typical from this region.
An ideal location to live
It is in this atmosphere that one day, in the 12th century, some craftsperson had to build a house on three floors. And that is how was build this exceptional stone house. Set on 176m2 of garden, this full renovated stone house offers a wonderful view on La Vezere River with its antique wash house. Being one of the most photographed houses in the area, it offers a mix between both History and Modernity: the property offers 180m2 of living space comprising on the ground floor a full renovated room to be converted in an apartment or a local for profession for instance. On the first floor, there are two charming bedrooms, a bathroom (Italian shower), a fitted kitchen and a large living room with a fireplace which gives onto a large balcony with South West orientation, overlooking on the Vezere River. On the second floor, a place which used to be an attic in the past has just been converted in an area of 3 bedrooms, a bathroom (bath) and toilets. This beautiful house could be used as a gite and sold fully furnished. The stone house is waiting for a new owner who would like to enjoy of all its History.
