Fairview New Homes has opened a new chapter in Chingford’s heritage by regenerating land where the Municipal Offices once stood.
Fairview is building 88 new homes on land in The Ridgeway which was vacated by the London Borough of Waltham Forest six years ago.
The old offices were demolished last year with the exception of the town hall building. It will be restored and sympathetically converted into luxury apartments.
Buyers who have registered an interest in homes at Connect were offered an exclusive first look at the development at the weekend and it is now open to the public.
Connect will include one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses. The four bedroom houses are the first homes to be released. They have a guide price of £550,000.
Fairview Sales Director Steven Allenby said: “Connect has created a real buzz in Chingford. Early feedback has told us that people are delighted to see this site being brought back into use and there is a genuine need for new homes in the area.
“Fairview is committed to sustainable development. We feel it is important that brownfield sites like this are used to their full potential to provide well designed, good quality homes.
“Many had feared for the future of the listed town hall building. Now Fairview will restore this important piece of Chingford’s heritage for generations to come.”
More than 900 people had enquired about homes at Connect ahead of the launch. They ranged from first-time buyers and investors to downsizers and families looking to take a step up to a larger home.
With Help to Buy people can secure their home with a 5 per cent deposit and 75 per cent mortgage. The remaining 20 per cent is provided by the Government as an equity loan which is interest-free for five years.
The Ridgeway had been home to Chingford Urban District Council since the town hall was built in 1929. The town hall and L-shaped office buildings were later used by the London Borough of Waltham Forest, which is now based in Walthamstow.
