The dream of living on a Fijian beach is that much closer for a lucky few, with the first land settlements occurring on Fiji's largest master planned development, Naisoso Island.
The luxury island, due for full completion in 2014, reached the historic milestone this month after achieving more than AUD$24 million in settlements within a short period. Proof that Naisoso is still the hottest property in the South Pacific, developers Relcorp have reported a further AUD$4 million in sales since handovers began.
Relcorp Fiji managing director Bob Lowres said that the development is well ahead of schedule and his team is on track to start construction on the first homes before Christmas.
A number of the beachfront and riverfront homes have been designed by Simon Carnachan of Crosson Clarke Carnachan, New Zealand's leading architects and Maurice Verna of TVS architects on the Gold Coast.
"Overseeing our first land handovers is a momentous occasion and the product of many years of hard work behind the scenes," Lowres said. "It's all systems go now as we prepare for the construction phase of the development. We're really looking forward to seeing our vision take shape over the coming months."
Donna Quinn from the Sunshine Coast is among the first purchasers to take ownership of her slice of Fijian paradise at Naisoso. She bought 18 months ago after deciding the island was ideal for investment as well as the perfect spot for a holiday home.
"The strength of the Aussie dollar makes Fiji extremely appealing right now," said Donna.
"The domestic market simply can't compete in terms of value for money or availability of unspoilt, beachfront land."
Just 24 plots of the 120 on offer remain on the market, priced from AUD$550,000. When fully developed, Naisoso will boast a four and five-star hotel, 150 luxury apartments, a boutique retail precinct and marina, art gallery, deli, restaurants and a health and wellness retreat.
Further plans include the development of marina villas, with the first release of villas planned for late 2012.
