Two new employees are starting careers with David Wilson Homes after the developer's parent company, Barratt Developments, pledged to take on 1,100 new trainees over the next three years.
Ashley Doyle (22) originally from Breedon on the Hill, Leicestershire, has been taken on as a Trainee Assistant Site Manager at the developer's Glenfield Park on the outskirts of Leicester, while Eddie Lowe (34), from Leicester, has been taken on as an Assistant Site Manager at the Sandlands development in Mansfield.
A top apprentice employer, David Wilson Homes is part of the nation's largest housebuilder Barratt Developments, which has created more than 3,000 new jobs at its sites across the country in the past year alone. It has expanded its recruitment drive for graduates, apprentices and trainees, pledging to take on 1,100 over the next three years, in addition to the 600 trainees already recruited since February 2013.
Ashley said: “I trained as an apprentice in Carpentry and Joinery with David Wilson Homes when I was younger and after being self-employed for a few years, I decided to return to David Wilson Homes as it's a great employer. My new role will allow me to learn more about the managerial side to construction work and progress my career even further.
“As a Trainee Assistant Site Manager, I feel like I'm learning a new thing every day. I'm looking forward to working my way up through the company and I hope to someday make it to Contracts Manager and manage a number of different construction sites.”
Eddie said: “In my previous role working in the mechanical services industry I felt like I'd already reached the highest position I could so I decided it was time for a career change.
“I'd heard that David Wilson Homes offered excellent progression opportunities with some employees starting off as labourers and being supported to work their way up to senior management positions – which is exactly what I was looking for – so I decided to apply for a role at the company.
“The work is really different, and I'm really enjoying learning about another side of the construction industry and the company's own processes as well as learning more about how to manage a domestic housing construction site. I can't wait to continue moving upwards through the company.”
Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, John Reddington, said: “With the demand for quality new homes across the Midlands continually on the rise, we have a duty to our customers to ensure that we maintain our high rate of production. It's great to see that our expansion has opened up career opportunities for talented people such as Eddie and Ashley.
“As a company, we pride ourselves in being able to truly support the career progression of our employees, which is why our division is committed to taking on 41 new trainees across the East Midlands over the next three years.”
