Whilst the UK's major house builders are putting their construction programmes on hold, a Northamptonshire development is actively looking for individuals who want to build their own dream home.
A parcel of land at Oakley Vale, on the south eastern edge of Corby, is being marketed as twenty self-build plots by Savills on behalf of Places for People, one of the UK's largest property management and development groups. The land, on the site of an old gravel quarry, is Phase 5 of a pioneering development managed by Cofton, the Birmingham-based land regeneration and development specialist.
Individual plots range in size from 300 to 650 square metres and most have road frontages. All are suitable for a detached two-storey property of between 120 and 195 square meters, leaving good sized gardens with open views. The plots are offered for sale, with outline planning permission, at an average guide price of £125,000.
Ivor Lafford of Savills in Milton Keynes says: “This sort of opportunity doesn't come up very often. It's a wonderful chance for enterprising people to have their own house built to their own design. Places for People is very keen that there should be a good mix of styles, although individual designs will need to be approved by them and the local authority.”
Whilst it is expected that many interested parties will be couples looking to downsize and release sufficient equity from their existing family homes, Savills Private Finance is offering financial assistance packages to prospective purchases who require funding.
With well over 1,000 homes already sold, one final phase of housing remains to be built at Corby Vale, which is well served with shops, pubs, small businesses, a primary school and technology college.
