The First 'A' Rated Homes Come To Ellistown

David Wilson Homes - East Midlands

Bardon-based housebuilder, David Wilson Homes, is celebrating after receiving an 'A' grade rating in North West Leicestershire District Council's ourplace™ scheme for its Poppyfields development in Ellistown.

The council's ourplace™ scheme was introduced to encourage developers to create well designed buildings and places that contribute positively to everyday lives and support the built, natural and social environment.

Councillor Trevor Pendleton, Portfolio Holder for Planning and one of the Council's Design Ambassadors, recently visited the award winning development off Battleflat Drive and presented the team at David Wilson Homes with its certificate.

He comments "As one of the Council's Design Ambassadors, it gives me great pleasure to present David Wilson Homes with an 'A' rated certificate - the first 'A' rated development to open in Coalville.

"Under the ourplace™ scheme, we rate developments against the national Building for Life standard that assesses the design quality of individual homes and the development as a whole.

"It's not easy to achieve an 'A' rating and David Wilson Homes are achieving 'A' ratings for all their new developments within North West Leicestershire. Poppyfields has a really great feel to it and I would encourage people who are perhaps looking for a new place to live to come and take a look around.

"The ourplace™ flag that flies at the entrance to the development lets people know that Poppyfields has been independently assessed under the ourplace™ scheme."

Philip Lacey, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, comments "We are delighted to have been awarded an 'A' grade in North West Leicestershire District Council's ourplace™ initiative for the work we are carrying out at Poppyfields in Ellistown.

"This is the first 'A' grade for a development in the area and it provides further evidence to confirm that David Wilson Homes is building some of the highest quality developments in the county.

"As a housebuilder, we put a great deal of thought in to the design of our developments and strive to create places where people will aspire to live. Therefore we are delighted to have received this sought after accolade from the council."

Poppyfields on Battleflat Drive in Ellistown currently offers a range of three- and four- bedroom homes priced from £149,995.

Some of the properties benefit from stunning views over open countryside which is part of the National Forest whilst the development itself also offers a considerable amount of public open space that provides areas for passive relaxation for purchasers.

Residents at the development will benefit from the good range of local amenities on offer in both Ellistown and Coalville whilst Leicester city centre, and all its leisure and recreational facilities, is close at hand too.

ourplace™ is an initiative that seeks to encourage and inspire people to create and expect places that contribute positively to our everyday lives and support our natural, built and social environment. As part of the initiative quality rating certificates are issued for new homes and neighbourhoods by participating local authorities. The certificates are designed to help home buyers find their ideal place to live.

Four rating tiers are available, from A+ through to C, with A+ and A ratings offering a very good or good standard of design. Ratings are based upon the Building for Life standards - the national standard for new homes and neighbourhoods.

Certificates are intended for guidance purposes only. Ratings are based upon the Building for Life standard and determined in accordance with information submitted by the developer to the local planning authority. Ratings are based on the information submitted as part of the approved planning application. An A+ or A rated development may, but will not necessarily qualify for a Building for Life 'Gold' or 'Silver' award. 'Gold' and 'Silver' awards are only awarded by the Building for Life Partnership and can be only awarded once the development is fully completed. The Building for Life Partnership is managed by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and the Home Builders Federation. Whilst rating certificates are issued by an accredited Building for Life Assessor, ratings are not endorsed by the Building for Life Partnership. Accredited Building for Life Assessors are subject to annual audits to ensure that their ratings are consistent and objective. Neither the Council nor the Building for Life Partnership will accept any liability for developments that fail to meet the required standard post completion.
