The people choose Moveme.com as their Yahoo! Find of the Year 2007 Innovative website moves to the top of the list
Property website Moveme.com (www.moveme.com), has proven victorious in Yahoo!'s search for the UK's favourite website of the year. Moveme.com beat off stiff competition from over 40 unique and creative sites to take home the coveted Yahoo! Finds of the Year 2007 People's Choice Award (www.yahoo.co.uk/finds2007).
As in previous years, Yahoo! Finds has turned up some truly exciting sites showcasing some of the best the web can offer. These include following toys travelling the globe (www.toyvoyagers.com), prized pooch profiles (www.doggysnaps.com) and green friendly Nigel's Eco Store (www.nigelsecostore.com), an online shop for all your eco needs.
With over 6,000 votes for the People's Choice Award since the online voting started two weeks ago, Moveme.com clearly struck a chord with British voters by taking the top spot. Earlier this year, the expert panel of judges also voted it the most innovative website in the annual Yahoo! Finds awards.
This handy website takes the guess work out of moving by producing free, personalised calendars which map out everything you could possibly need to think about when moving house. This is just what we need considering one in three Brits are estimated to move between three and five times in their lifetime and 23% are most concerned about the time and effort it takes to move house.* In three quick easy steps Moveme.com tailors individual plans to give you a step by step guide to a stress free move!
Despite not taking the top prize, social websites certainly continued to drive interest in 2007. Doggy Snapps (www.doggysnaps.co.uk), a social 'petworking' site founded by the Dogs Trust where dog owners can register their pooch personalities came in as one of the runner ups. Along with the jogging forum Fetch Everyone (www.fetcheveryone.com) who provide a platform for running groups, tips and ideas.
Jeff Revoy of Yahoo! Search said “The People's Choice category, as always, was a tight finish this year with every last vote counted. Social sites continued to be very popular and we found a real diversity in the groups targeted but in the end the useful and innovative Moveme.com took the People's Choice crown. The whole array of sites short listed and the eight previous winners of Yahoo! Finds of the year really harness the power of the web and are an example of connecting people to content that matters most to them.”
For the sixth consecutive year, Yahoo! Finds of the Year celebrated the exciting and unique potential of the British Internet. The first round of winners, chosen by an expert panel of judges, included the strangely addictive Faces in Places (www.facesinplaces.blogspot.com) enabling people to upload images of faces in inanimate objects, World Reviewer (www.worldreviewer.com) in the Travel category for inspiring travellers to try something different and Friends Abroad (www.friendsabroad.co.uk) from the Educational category.
Charles Wasdell, Marketing Director of Moveme.com summed up the sentiments of many of the sites by saying. “It is so exciting to have won the Yahoo! Finds of the Year People's Choice award and be supported by both the public and the judging panel. Moveme.com has only been going for a year and it is a site we are really proud of. I'm delighted that it is proving as useful as we hoped.”
